Saints officials announced on Friday, October 30, that Gayle Benson is acquiring The Windsor Court hotel. This transaction transfers full control of the property to a local owner for the first time in its history.

The hotel opened in 1984 to coincide with the World’s Fair, establishing a standard for luxury hospitality in the city. Benson’s team described the purchase as a reflection of her confidence in New Orleans as a premier destination. The Berger Company, led by Darryl and Ryan Berger, will retain a minority interest and continue to participate in daily hotel operations.

Benson stated that shaping the future of the hotel is a privilege. She said her vision is to build on the existing excellence of the property. Her team noted that planned improvements will focus on the service and attention to detail that have drawn travelers from around the world for more than four decades.

General Manager Ralph Mahana said local ownership provides a strong foundation for the hotel’s next phase. He described the upcoming renovation as an opportunity to maintain a world-class experience for guests. Mahana emphasized that the team’s primary focus remains on enhancing the legacy established since the hotel’s opening.

Benson expressed gratitude to the Berger family for facilitating the deal. She said the process was smooth and collaborative, noting that the family has cared for the hotel with pride. She added that their involvement allows the property to begin its next chapter with a shared commitment to success.

Benson characterized the acquisition as both a business investment and a contribution to New Orleans’ global reputation. She said hotels like The Windsor Court introduce the world to the city’s best qualities. She wants every guest to leave with a sense of what makes the city special and for employees to feel proud of the future they are building.

The announcement follows the opening of the hotel in 1984. The property has operated under various ownership structures since then, but this is the first instance of 100% local ownership. The Berger Company will remain involved in operations alongside Benson’s team.
