Police walked a 3-year-old boy off a youth soccer field in Winter Park, Florida, after his family received a trespass notice. The incident occurred during an i9 Sports league game where Nevada, the toddler, was competing against children who were reportedly two years older. His mother stated that opposing parents became upset because their 5-year-old children struggled to win possession of the ball from him.
The family says the dispute began with audible complaints from adults on the opposing team. In video shared online, spectators can be heard criticizing Nevada for playing with the ball for extended periods. One adult in the recording described the child as trying to put on a show. Nevada’s mother pushed back against the criticism, noting that the adults were gathering to discuss her son while he was simply playing the game. She said, “Those grown ups huddled up talking about my son… but he ain’t doing nothing but playing soccer.”
The situation escalated from verbal disagreements to law enforcement involvement. According to the family, officers arrived at the scene and issued a formal trespass notice. The police then escorted Nevada and his parents away from the field in front of the other children. Nevada’s father expressed disbelief at the outcome in the same video, stating, “They really called the police on a 3 year old because he had the ball too much.”
The family has since received a refund for their fall 2026 registration with the league. They allege that the removal process was handled directly by the league in coordination with local law enforcement. The incident has drawn online attention because of the age gap between the players and the involvement of police in a preschool-aged athlete’s game.
Social media users have raised questions about whether race played a role in the escalation. Nevada is Black, and many commenters pointed out that the situation reportedly reached the level of a police response quickly. The family’s regular posts showing the child’s goals and dribbling against older opponents had already circulated on sports platforms, including House of Highlights and ESPN FC, before this specific match.
i9 Sports, the national youth sports organization hosting the program, has not issued a public statement regarding the incident. Winter Park police have also not publicly explained who contacted officers or what information was provided when they arrived on the scene. The details surrounding the decision to remove the family remain based primarily on the family's account.
The family continues to share the video of the confrontation, which has fueled discussion about how youth leagues manage competitive differences and parental complaints. No further statements have been released by the league or the police department as of this week.
