Port Charlotte outscored Charlotte 201 to 27 across five consecutive meetings, a statistical dominance that culminated in a 42-6 victory on Friday night at Harbor Nissan Stadium. The Pirates claimed their fifth straight win in the Peace River Rivalry, a series that has historically favored the Tarpons but has recently shifted decisively in Port Charlotte’s favor. The result leaves Port Charlotte at 7-2, while Charlotte falls to 6-4 after losing four of its last five games.

Logan Flaherty reached the 100th career touchdown mark for the Pirates, rushing for two scores and adding another on the ground to complement his passing attack. Bruce Blanden also found the end zone twice on 13 carries for 75 yards. The offense proved efficient, with Flaherty completing nine of 13 passes for 165 yards. By halftime, the lead had ballooned to 27-0, forcing a running clock for the remainder of the contest.

The game opened with a missed field goal after a 15-play drive, but the Pirates quickly regained possession. Eli Pearl returned a punt 61 yards for a touchdown, giving Port Charlotte a 7-0 lead. Charlotte fumbled the kickoff, and Blanden capitalized with an 11-yard run to make it 14-0 with 1:42 left in the first quarter. The Tarpons managed only 37 yards of total offense in the first half, stalling in the red zone and missing a 31-yard field goal early in the second quarter.

Flaherty extended the lead in the second quarter with a 62-yard pass to Lee Camel, followed by a three-yard rushing touchdown. He then connected with Dupri Gainer on a 15-yard strike to make the score 27-0. Charlotte’s Roderick Rivers intercepted a Hail Mary attempt by Flaherty in the end zone just before the half. In the second half, a recovery of a pooch kick by Darnell Bennett set up another Flaherty short run and a two-point conversion, pushing the score to 35-0.

An interception by Ozias Dorsey led to the final margin. Blanden scored from the one-yard line at the end of the third quarter to make it 42-0. The Tarpons prevented a shutout only in the closing seconds when Jack Grimes threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Kam Curliss. Charlotte’s total offensive yardage for the game was 61, a stark contrast to the Pirates’ output.

Port Charlotte coach Jordan Ingman emphasized the effort required to reach this point, noting that the players work hard and that the expectation to win can sometimes take the moment away. He expressed hope that the team would enjoy the occasion after a season that began with a 1-2 start before winning all subsequent games. The Pirates will now wait to determine if they earn the No. 1 seed in Region 4A-3, which would keep them home for the playoffs.

Charlotte head coach Kevin Claxton framed the loss as a learning experience for a young group. He stated that the team gained valuable repetitions with players who return next year and planned to focus on training and the weight room. Claxton indicated the Tarpons would use the full year to improve and return stronger, relying on a solid foundation of current players.

The Pirates will prepare for the regional playoffs, where they expect to host their opponents. Charlotte will move on to its post-season preparation, aiming to rebuild on the defensive and offensive units that showed flashes of potential despite the recent struggles. The rivalry series continues next year, with both teams looking to adjust their strategies for the upcoming season.
