HBO announced five new cast members for its Harry Potter series on October 30. The network revealed that Leo Bill, Andrew Brooke, Daniel Fearn, Laura Smyth, and David Threlfall have joined the season 1 lineup. This update came days before the holiday season begins.
Bill will portray Nearly Headless Nick. Brooke is cast as the Bloody Baron. Fearn will play the Fat Friar. Smyth will take on the role of the Fat Lady. Threlfall will provide the voice for the Sorting Hat. These characters serve as key figures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The ghosts and the Fat Lady's portrait control access to the Gryffindor dormitory. They require the correct password to grant entry to students. The Sorting Hat determines which house a new student joins by being placed on their head during their first year.
The first season, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, is scheduled to debut on HBO and HBO Max on Christmas Day 2026. HBO renewed the series for a second season on May 6, 2026. This decision occurred months before the first season airs.
Dominic McLaughlin leads the cast as Harry Potter. He stars alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The show is described as a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling's books. Rowling serves as an executive producer on the project.
HBO Max shared the casting news via an Instagram post. The caption for the announcement asked, "Who haunts these halls?" The post served as the primary channel for revealing the new faces behind these iconic roles.
